What is it?

One of the best features about RCN Journal is that you can invite family and friends to View or Make Contributions to your Journal. If you invite friends to view your Journal, they will be able to see its contents and make comments but not create or edit entries. If you invite friends to contribute, they will be able to add, edit or delete content from your Journal.

How Do I Get There?

Navigate to Inviting Friends (Journal Owners who are logged in)

  • Press Settings.
  • Press Friends;
    • OR
  • Press Invite Friends in the main navigation bar.
Tips and How To's

"Tell-A-Friend" (Viewers)

  1. Press Tell-A-Friend in the main navigation bar.
  2. Type the Email Address of the person you are inviting to view your Journal.
  3. Feel free to Edit the Text of the message.
  4. Press Send.

Invite Friends Page

  1. Press Settings.
  2. Press Friends.
  3. Type the Email Address of the friend you want to invite.
  4. If you want the Friend to only be able to view your Journal, click View.
  5. If you want the Friend to contribute to your Journal by making edits and uploading media, click Contribute.
  6. To Edit the email messages sent to your Friend, click Customize Invitation.
  7. To Hide the Customize box, click Hide Custom Invitation.
  8. For additional Friends, Repeat Steps 3-7 above.
  9. Press Send Invitations.

. When your friends have successfully registered, they will appear in the list below.


Customizing Friends Settings

When your friends sign up, they will be added to your Friends page, at which point you can decide whether they are a Viewer or Contributor by clicking either option and pressing Save.

Viewers

  • Can add comments (if you have comments turned on), but no content

Contributors

Contributors can add or delete the following content:
Tip: Contributors can only change the settings for Audio and Video. They will not be able to change the font, e-mail notifications and other important settings that are specific to your username and password.

Delete a Friend

At any time, you can change a friend's status from Viewer to Contributor, Contributor to Viewer or delete them by clicking the Delete link.
