Colorado health department officers, "working with local fire, police and health departments, and regional hazardous materials and ordnance disposal teams, responded to more than 150 requests for assistance. Nearly 94 percent of their response calls have turned up "shock-sensitive" compounds, which can detonate just from unscrewing the lid. That number jumps to 98 percent in schools more than five years old. In over half of the schools they visited, the health department officials discovered chemicals that can burn or explode simply by coming into contact with air, water or sunlight. One in six schools had radioactive materials, but no radioactive monitoring equipment." (Colorado Department of Health)
