As part of the GHSI's continued efforts to share experiences, the CSR/Public Policy Working Group has organized a webinar presentation of Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship's Assessment Tool. The Center is currently working with Kaiser Permanente, using the tool as a vehicle to promote greater communication, integration and alignment in managing corporate social responsibility (CSR) issues across an organization. Kaiser Permanente will also provide their own experiences around CSR and the use of this tool. Joining from Kaiser Permanente will be Dinah Dittman, National Director, Community Relations and Kathy Gerwig, Vice President, Workplace Safety and Environmental Stewardship Officer.

This open session will introduce participants to the Corporate Citizenship Assessment Tool. Developed as an online platform for member organizations to assess their strengths and gaps in corporate citizenship management, the tool has been used by over 70 companies since it was first launched in March 2007. It provides a quick and practical way to assess an organization's current state of corporate citizenship management in four distinct dimensions of corporate citizenship - governance, community support, operations, and products & services. It is easy to use and provides a quick real-time snapshot of how well corporate citizenship is integrated into a company's management systems and practices.

While designed as a "generic" tool to be used by any organization - regardless of the sector, type of ownership, or size, it can be customized to more closely reflect the CSR management issues of a particular sector, such as healthcare. The Center is currently working with Kaiser Permanente using the tool as a vehicle to promote greater communication, integration and alignment in managing corporate social responsibility issues across an organization.

The presentation will provide a "peek" into the tool, the "assessment results" generated after submitting the information, and will share some key findings on how companies are using it to advance their citizenship practices.
