Welcome to the FHNA web site
Welcome to the Fairmount Hill Neighborhood Association. Fairmount Hill is the earliest established neighborhood of the area known as Hyde Park. It sits east and above the Neponset River. Though, today it is not obvious by looking at the variety of styles and periods of architecture, Fairmount Hill is considered the first experiment of subdivision [neighborhood] planning in the country. Credited to land-developer, Alpheus Blake and the "Twenty Associates", made up of a diverse group of entrepreneurs, they formerly began the settling of Hyde Park by building on the Hill in the 1850's. The area was desirable for being a mere 8 miles from the port of Boston, the center of government and commerce, yet still a compelling and tranquil countryside. Today we still enjoy a peaceful distance and convenient proximity to metropolitan Boston.
