The 54th Regimen was an all african-american militia unit that was
from Hyde Park, MA and served during the Civil War training at the
formed Camp Mead of Readville section of Hazelton.

Hyde Park was formed from land from Dedham, Milton, and
Dorchester, and formerly known Hazelton and incorporated in
1876. In 1910 the town voted to annex to the city of
Boston and joined as the southern most neighborhood of Boston in
1911.

Hyde Park has served as home to several popular Bostonians
including painter Joseph Enniking from Chicago who married a local
Hyde Park activist. He painted mainly in oils of the natural
landscape offered by the land around what is now Enniking
Highway. More recently it has been home to Boston Red
Sox pitcher Manny Del Carmen, who pitched for West Roxbury High
School. Hyde Park is proudly represented by residents
such as City Councelors Rob Consalvo, Felix Arroyo, and mayor
Thomas Menino.
There are 7 neighborhoods within Hyde Park can you name
them?
